Mega Tree Plantation by Rotary at Gokuldham, Pokhara

Rotary Clubs in Pokhara jointly organized a mega tree plantation program on Friday, 31 Jul, 2026, at Pushkarini Paropkar Gokuldham, Bachhebuduwa, Pokhara-14. The initiative brought together 11 Rotary Clubs affiliated with Rotary District 3292 (Nepal/Bhutan), reflecting a strong collective commitment toward environmental sustainability.
Addressing the gathering, patron of Gokuldham and Bhagwat Bhaskar youth priest, Kamalnayan Gautam, highlighted the religious, social, and environmental significance of tree plantation. He emphasized that environmental conservation and the promotion of greenery require active participation from all sectors. He further stressed that plantation efforts should not remain symbolic, but must be complemented by proper care, protection, and nurturing of the saplings to ensure long-term impact.
The program was conducted under the slogan, “Plant Trees, Increase Greenery, and Build a Clean Environment and a Healthy Future.” On the occasion, Bikash Adhikari, Co-Chair of the District Environmental Committee of Rotary District 3292, underscored that environmental conservation and the creation of a clean and healthy ecosystem for future generations is a shared responsibility of all stakeholders.
Program Coordinator and President of Rotary Club of Pokhara Lakeside, Top Bahadur Thapa, along with President of Rotary Club of Pokhara Valley, Nabin Raj Baral, and Rotarian Sangita Sharma Timilsina, among others, shared their views on the importance of tree plantation and Rotary’s ongoing contribution toward fostering a greener and healthier environment.
The event was organized in alignment with the District’s Tree Plantation Week observed from July 26 to August 1, 2026. Under this campaign, Rotary District 3292 has set an ambitious target of planting 100,000 saplings nationwide. In support of this initiative, Rotary Clubs in Pokhara collectively planted approximately 1,100 saplings across various locations.
The program witnessed active participation from Rotarians and their family members representing several Rotary Clubs in Pokhara, including Rotary Club of Pokhara, Pokhara Capital, Pokhara Annapurna, RC Pokhara Newroad, RC Pokhara Valley, RC Pokhara Fishtail, Rotary Club of Gandaki, RC Pokhara Midtown, RC Pokhara Lakeside, RC Lekhnath, RC Pokhara Paradise, among others, demonstrating Rotary’s united effort in promoting environmental stewardship.
Approximately 1,100 saplings were planted, primarily fodder species to support over 300 stray cows currently sheltered at Gokuldham. Each participating club contributed Rs 5,000, supporting both plantation and cattle feed, reflecting a combined environmental and social investment.
Notably, Gokuldham’s initiative of housing stray cattle has significantly reduced road accidents in Pokhara, with data from Pokhara Metropolitan City indicating that incidents previously averaging around 15 per month have now effectively ceased.
Impact: Environmental restoration, sustainable cattle feed source, and improved urban road safety.
